Not All Safes Are the Same

If you have ever lost any important data due to theft or fire, then you know how very devastating that can be. Your first instinct is probably to buy a safe, and that is an excellent idea. You must keep in mind, though, that an everyday safe is not going to protect the delicate technology of CD’s and USB drives from the heat of a fire or from humidity. You will need to purchase a media safe like the FireKing DS1513, which is fortified against extreme temperatures and other environmental threats. Backup copies can only save you if they are safe, too.

Safes Keep Up with Technology

Many businesses and individuals need secure places to keep hard drives and USB drives, as well as CDs or DVDs. The problem is that these new forms of data storage are extremely sensitive to heat and humidity, so the everyday floor safe that you’re using might not be enough to protect your data. There are, however, several media safes available that are designed with your technology in mind. The FireKing DS1817 is perfect for keeping your high-tech equipment safe from the ravages of fire, or even everyday moisture in the air. It is definitely an investment you should make.

Think Ahead and Purchase a Media Safe

If you deal with digital data and media on a daily basis, you may believe that having a backup is the only way to insure the survival of your information. You can also, however, purchase a FireKing DS1513 for your home or business office. These safes are created especially with digital media in mind, so there are larger storage areas inside, and the safes are especially fortified against any and all temperature extremes. With digital media, even a cup of coffee can be dangerous, so choose a safe that protects against even minor temperature changes, and excess humidity.

Have you considered purchasing a fireproof safe to protect your valuable documents?

Have you ever thought about what it would take to replace all of the valuable documents in your home or business if they were destroyed by fire?  Some are probably even irreplaceable.  A fireproof safe is the best way to ensure that those documents would not be destroyed in the event of a fire.  Fireproof safes are specially constructed safes that are tested under actual fire conditions to ensure that the contents remain safe during a fire.

They have extra fireproof insulation in the walls and doors, and a special door seal that expands when heated to keep out the water used to put out the fire.  These fireproof safes carry a rating — Typical ratings are a 1-hour fireproof rating and a 2-hour fireproof rating.  So why not think about getting a fireproof safe today to protect your valuable documents?  For more information on the fireproof safe.

A drop safe can save your business from losing money during a robbery

A drop safe is designed to allow cash, small objects and enevelopes to be deposited into it without opening the safe.  If your business handles a lot of cash or other valuables that you don’t need access to during the day, a drop safe could save them from being taken during a robbery.  If you deal with cash, deposit large amounts periodically throughout the day so that the cash register doesn’t contain all of your money.  If a robbery takes place, tell the robber you don’t have the combination to the safe or instruct your employees to do this.   The robber has no choice but to settle for what’s in the cash register.

Drop safes are designed for easy deposits, and they have baffles inside so that the contents can’t be “fished” out with a wire or some other mechanism.  But they are not as secure as a regular safe, so you should move your cash to a burglar proof safe or the bank at night.  Drop safes are available in a number of different styles – some have a slot on the top, some have a “hopper” you open (like a corner mailbox), and some have a rotating drum on top.  The slotted types are best for cash.  If you need to store larger items, the hopper type is best.  So why not add some extra security for your business buy using a drop safe?  For more information on the drop safe.

Safe Assured

People that haven’t had to deal with a break-in don’t understand just how traumatic the experience can be. Adding security features to homes and businesses helps reduce the amount of havoc a robber can wreak. Many, who have used safes to store their valuables, and have had their homes or businesses broken into, will tell you that in the end it was worth it to buy a safe.

Here is a good example: A Memphis man received a call from his neighbor telling him that his apartment building was on fire. The neighbor managed to grab the man’s computer from his apartment, but nothing else. The following day the residents were able to enter their apartments to salvage what was left. The man’s apartment was among the most damaged in the building. Fortunately he had two small safes, in which he had stored a valuable coin collection, negatives and important documents. The items stored in his safes were all undamaged.

So, whether you’re a grocery store owner considering purchasing some depository safes, or a home owner thinking about buying a wall safe—safes are the only sure way to keep your important items out of harms reach.

Wall Safe model 2070A by Honeywell Safes

Here is a favorite wall safe among customers. The model 2070A by Honeywell Safes.  Good size and easy to install.  The depth is 4.12 inches which fits snugly into standard 2×4 wall set up.  Don’t let the .12 scare you, it fits nicely.  We sell this safe across the country and I have never had a complaint from anyone.  It is a popular wall safe with many folks.  About the only complaint I’ve ever heard of on it was when we sell out!  This has happened a couple of times but Honeywell Safes has increased production to meet demand.

This wall safe comes with an electronic lock and a key override in case the batteries go dead.  On the negative side, its not what I would call a high security wall safe.  Though it does have the best security measure that wall safes offer…which is hidden security.  Needless to say if the wall safe is found it could be crowbared open within a few minutes.  But realistically most thieves don’t carry crow bars. Most enter our homes empty handed, spend 3-8 minutes in the home, and leave with hands full.  The time it would take to look for a wall safe or pry their way into it takes way longer then the average thief is willing to spend at the CHANCE a wall safe might be in a house.

Over all it good quality, easy to install and reliable.  It gets my thumbs up as one of the great wall safes.

High Security Safe model MV15-2618

Did you ever see the movie “The Italian Job”?  Where the girl was drilling into a “Worthington Safe?”…..(I have looked on the net and can’t find them or anyone that has ever heard of them) Well, with the tools she was using she didn’t have a chance!  She finally “cracked” the safe by dialing into it.  I started hollering at the movie “Bull Poop” (this is a G rated blog) Because the dial was a bump proof dial.  No way she could have done that.  My lovely bride looked at me “Its only a movie”….

Well, the movies are full of entertainment but when it comes to facts they are misleading.  However, when it comes to safes, Hayman Safes model MV15-2618 is anything but misleading.  TL 15 rated safe with UL fire rating. Weighing in at over 800 lbs (this is one of the small ones!) you have to take this model seriously.  A burglar could chew on this safe forever and not get inside.  (Probably wouldn’t even leave teeth marks.)

* Fireproof Safe UL listed for 1 1/2 hours. (Your house will be gone but not the safe…thats good for your stuff but bad and sad for the house)

* Double holes in bottom for double bolt down. Thus increasing the safes protection by 100%.

*Internal hinge for a more durable longer lasting hinge.  Giving nothing to pry on for the thief.

*Monster size bolts of 1 1/2 inches each.  On both the door open side and the hinge side.

*Also a healthy size plate of drill resistant hard plate. This is too keep out locksmiths like me and intelligent thieves.  However, I have never come across a safe that a thief has drilled open. I’m sure its been done in the bigger cities but I’ve never heard of it.

*Two remote relockers that add reinfocement to the bolts. More on this see my article on relockers:

In regards to size, pay close attention to the diffence in the inside vs outside dimensions.  You will see a huge change between inside and outside depth because of the door.

Over all quality of this safe is Excellant.  Great protection against burglary and fire. Did I mention its TL rated? UL listed TL 15.  One of the top safes in the world. Made for jewelry shops, coin collections, family heirlooms, antique collectables, check cashing stores, home collections, and much more.  This one gets highest marks on my ValueSafes seal of approval.  Feel free to visit them for a closer look at this model at
