Benefits of a Drawer Safe

drawer safe

Often the items we place in a safe are things that we want to keep secured; jewelry, important papers, money, and priceless treasures. Though the purpose of owning a safe is to keep things secure, sometimes there are items in a safe that we may need to access quickly and discreetly.

Drawer safes are perfectly designed for this purpose; they provide owners with security but allow easier access to the items inside. Purchasing a drawer safe has a multitude of great benefits for commercial and private properties. They can be installed in private areas like a bedroom nightstand or an office desk.

Here are just some of the advantages of choosing a drawer safe for your home or business:

Security for your children

Drawers’ safes are sometimes the best place to store a weapon, such as a registered gun for protection or hunting purposes. Because they are usually installed in unlikely places in the home, it would be more difficult for a child to find or tamper with, and will keep weapons and other potentially dangerous items away from children.

Difficult for burglars to find

Serial burglars can pinpoint the location of a wall safe, usually behind a wall mounted portrait, inside a wall panel, above a mantel or fireplace, etc. Drawer safes are more difficult for a burglar to locate because they may never think to look inside of a desk drawer or nightstand for a safe. Though a professional burglar may be able to simply walk away with the entire desk drawer, he or she would have to find it first, which in many cases, is unlikely.

There are drawer safes that come with keypads

Drawer safes come in various models, some with key locks, and others with keypads. Though the drawer safes that are installed with a lock and key are many times more economical, it is wise to spend the extra money for a keypad. Keypads are more secure because a regular key can get lost or be misplaced, which leaves you and your safe in a vulnerable position. With a keypad lock, you can think of a code that is easy for you to remember, but will still be difficult for a stranger to guess.

Drawer safes provide the kind of security you need for your cherished items, while being convenient to get into at any time. If you have expensive items, legal papers, or registered weapons in your home or business, a drawer safe can offer you the peace of mind you’ve been looking for.

Organizing Your Filing Cabinets? Some Helpful Tips

filing cabinet

Getting all your paperwork organized can seem like a daunting task, but you know it has to be done. So how do you face all those pieces of paper with courage and fortitude? It’s not as difficult as you may think, and when it’s done, you will not only feel relieved that you finally know where everything is, you will feel good about yourself as well.

First things first; make a list of all the categories you want your filing cabinet to contain. Some categories you might include are Taxes, Insurance (Health) Insurance (Auto) Insurance (Home), Bills (Organized as to what they are for; e.g.: Electric, Water, Garbage, Mortgage, Phone etc.), letters to answer, whatever is necessary to you.

Now decide on what method of filing will be easiest for you to navigate. Hanging files, manila folders, or both. Go to your office supply store and get the files and folders, labels that you can write or print on, and of course, a filing cabinet if you don’t have one. Get your supplies before you do anything.

The next step is to tackle all the paperwork. Find a clean counter top or desk top, and start putting paper into piles. Do it in alphabetical order, and only take a few letters at a time. It may feel like you are sorting things more than once, but in the end, you will get everything where you want it to be. If you have a hanging file that is labeled “Insurance,” put folders in it for each type of insurance. If you have one that says “Utilities”, create folders for each utility. If there is one that says “Business,” label folders for each aspect of your business: Clients, Contracts, Projects, Proposals etc.

If you already have a working filing cabinet, sort through the categories and see if you need to add more or remove some, depending on what areas of your life are represented by the loose paper you have. Make a list of categories to be added, and sort all the unfiled paperwork into the appropriate category. Decide whether or not you need to sort things by the year, like taxes for instance, and do so.

The hardest part may be getting rid of unused or unnecessary files and folders, or re-sorting them. Throwing things out can be very liberating, so try not to keep anything that you really don’t need.

This process may sound overwhelming, but once you get started, you will find it isn’t at all. Organizing your filing cabinet will give you a great deal of satisfaction, and a sense of relief. Now you can access your papers quickly and easily, and you know where to file things as they come in. It is work, but it is satisfying work, and the end result is well worth the time you give it.

How to Maintain and Clean a Gun Safe

gun safe
Anyone who owns a gun of any type knows the importance of having a gun safe. They keep kids away and make it so that no accidents can happen. But did you know it’s important to keep them clean and maintained as well?

To make sure they work properly, here are some great tips on how keep your safe clean and maintained.

  • Make sure you dust your safe once a month. Whether it’s a feather duster or dusting wipes, make sure you do this regularly. If you leave dust on the surface for very long, it can be very hard to get back off and it gets everywhere!
  •

  • Make sure you don’t use metal polishes or solvents. If you use these, you can damage the protective layering that prevents tarnish.
  •

  • Look around at the different surfaces of your safe. Are there scratches or other blemishes? These can easily be taken care of with touch up paint.
  •

  • Make sure to keep your locking bolts well oiled, otherwise they may not work effectively. To do this, add a small amount of grease to the front, side, and bottom of the bolts once a year and this will prevent it from sticking.
  •

  • Also, you should have a certified lock technician look at the lock once a year because they might be able to catch some issues you were not aware of.
  •

  • Lastly, check out the fire seal. If it is not damaged, then there is no work to be done on it. However, if there is any damage like rips, then you need to replace it.

Some of these tips and tricks will work on other safes as well, but it is crucial that you make sure your  gun safe is working properly to ensure people can’t get into it like your kids, and to make sure you can access it in the case of an emergency.
