High Security Safe model MV15-2618

Did you ever see the movie “The Italian Job”?  Where the girl was drilling into a “Worthington Safe?”…..(I have looked on the net and can’t find them or anyone that has ever heard of them) Well, with the tools she was using she didn’t have a chance!  She finally “cracked” the safe by dialing into it.  I started hollering at the movie “Bull Poop” (this is a G rated blog) Because the dial was a bump proof dial.  No way she could have done that.  My lovely bride looked at me “Its only a movie”….

Well, the movies are full of entertainment but when it comes to facts they are misleading.  However, when it comes to safes, Hayman Safes model MV15-2618 is anything but misleading.  TL 15 rated safe with UL fire rating. Weighing in at over 800 lbs (this is one of the small ones!) you have to take this model seriously.  A burglar could chew on this safe forever and not get inside.  (Probably wouldn’t even leave teeth marks.)

* Fireproof Safe UL listed for 1 1/2 hours. (Your house will be gone but not the safe…thats good for your stuff but bad and sad for the house)

* Double holes in bottom for double bolt down. Thus increasing the safes protection by 100%.

*Internal hinge for a more durable longer lasting hinge.  Giving nothing to pry on for the thief.

*Monster size bolts of 1 1/2 inches each.  On both the door open side and the hinge side.

*Also a healthy size plate of drill resistant hard plate. This is too keep out locksmiths like me and intelligent thieves.  However, I have never come across a safe that a thief has drilled open. I’m sure its been done in the bigger cities but I’ve never heard of it.

*Two remote relockers that add reinfocement to the bolts. More on this see my article on relockers: http://www.valuesafesinc.com/relocker.html

In regards to size, pay close attention to the diffence in the inside vs outside dimensions.  You will see a huge change between inside and outside depth because of the door.

Over all quality of this safe is Excellant.  Great protection against burglary and fire. Did I mention its TL rated? UL listed TL 15.  One of the top safes in the world. Made for jewelry shops, coin collections, family heirlooms, antique collectables, check cashing stores, home collections, and much more.  This one gets highest marks on my ValueSafes seal of approval.  Feel free to visit them for a closer look at this model at www.ValueSafes.com

Hayman Safe MV15-2618 TL 15 Fireproof Safes

TL-15 High Security Jewelery safe.  TL 15 safes are normally found in jewelry stores, coin dealers, and check cashing stores.  You insurance company may insist on the purchase of one of these safes if want to get a rider policy for home jewelery as well.  Very important to chat with your insurance company to find if it is a money saving purchase.

In regards to TL 15 safes, they are the more common of TL rated safes.  You can find one used every once in a great while.  Best place to check is your local locksmith.  If he has a used one, make sure he puts on a new lock before you take delivery of it.

Speaking of locks.  TL-15 safes are almost always equipped with an S&G Dial or you can upgrade to a “radiation attack resistant keypad”….which is really any battery operated keypad.  This option for radiation proof is too keep someone from using x-ray equip, ent from trying to break into your safe.  Personally I have never heard of anyone doing this…But there is always someone that “knew of someone, that knows someone, that read someplace, that this could happen. Go figure.  The unit is equipped with spring loaded relockers and drill resistant hardplate hidden with the safe.

The hardplate cannot be drilled through, only melted.  Limiting the amount of time a thief would want to spend in front of it.  It normally takes me around 30 mins to get my equipment set up and the safe prepped before I can even start working on a TL Rated safe.  Note that the door is 5 inches thick and body is two inches think.  Most thieves when they see a safe like this just go past it and try for easier pickings.

Fireproof Safe of 1 1/2 hours UL listed and rated.  This is important.  Often times a UL fire label of 1 1/2 hours is better fire protection than a “factory tested 2 hours”.  (Sounds odd I know but let me explain) UL is a non-biased testing center based here in the US.  While a factory test is done in the factory in China or Korea.  They have a vested intrest in the safe being fire rated for longer.  I have heard of some factory tested safes that were tested for two hours BUT UL only says they are one hour! That should make you stop and think a while about what you are buying.  Please note that while I am on the subject of quality.  Buy from American Manufacturers not from overseas makers of TL rated safes.  Because TL15 rated safes are hard enough to work on WITH help from an American company.  I have seen too many people purchase an affordable overseas safe just to have the import company close down and leave zero information or help when it comes to servicing your safe.  The safe ends up locked up and being expensive to get into and then its normally ruin and unrepairable.

This is why I have chosen to sell only Hayman Safes.  Gary Hayman is the 2nd generation of designer and manufacturer of safes in the Hayman family.  They are available with support and service and have been for decades!  The reason I’m telling you this is because the MV15-2016 is designed to last a lifetime.  Sure it may need some repair or adjustment from a locksmith years from now.  But this is really made to pass down to the grandkids.

One last thing, this model is made with two predrilled bolt down holes.  So that it can be attached to the foundation.  Most safes only come with one.  But this one will be twice as secure so rest easy with one of these.  You can see one of these Magna Vaults at www.valuesafesinc.com or just follow this link to go to the right page: SAFES

Diamond Back Gun Safes Fireproof Model GS5936H

GS5936H from Diamond Back Gun Safes.  This is a new size model made to the specifications of the other “H” series models.  Excellant Gun Safe value.  We sell 5 brands of Gun Safes right now and will be adding a 6th. But Diamond Back has my vote for best quality for the price.  This model is made with 10 gage steel just like ALL Diamond Back Gun Safe models.

Bolts are are a whopping 1 1/2 inches each.  Which is huge and next to impossible to crowbar when locking into a 10 gage steel wall.  I say next to impossible more for legal reasons.  I have never heard of anyone crowbaring open a Diamond Back Gun Safe.  Which says something of the quality and materials!  There is also drill resistant hardplate over the lock that must be melted and cannot be drilled into.  Pushing this model into the area of “Far Exceeds CDOJ Ratings”.

Lock is one of the best made dial locks in the world.  S&G is made in Kentucky by the Stanley Corporation.  Great design and great quality.  Spring loaded relocker as well as spyproof dial.  You can also get a keypad on this unit.  Such as the Lagard basic.  Made by Lagard for commercial safes.  One of the best keypads in the industry, especially for the price.  I normally suggest going with an electronic keypad like the LaGard keypad for Gun Safes.  Because the last thing you want to be doing is dialing a dial, in a panic, while an intruder is busting down your door.  Keypads just offer the quickest access in the safe industry.  Even better than biometric locks that read your fingerprint. (Biometric locks have a tendency to get dirty or miss read your fingerprint. I have written more under biometric locks).

Fireproof for one hour and double predrilled holes in bottom of safe so that it can be secured to the foundation.  This keeps the fire out and “Bubba” from putting it on a hand truck to pull it out of the house.  (Gotta keep an eye on Bubba.) One hour is very good fire protection in any residential or commercial fire.

Free shipping is also included in this model and for most of the US there is no tax.  This safe by Diamond Back Gun Safes gets my “Valuesafes seal of approval” for quality and price point.  Check us out at www.ValueSafes.com

TL 30 Fireproof Safe Model MV30-6028

MV30-6028 is the largest in our TL 30 safe series.  Call Valuesafes.com before you order this one. The weight is over 2000lbs!  Shipping is free from them but you should have all the details before you buy.

MV stands for Magna Vault. 30 stands for TL-30. 60 stands for interior height. 28 is for interior width.  This safe is a built to the exact standards of the all the TL30’s in this section.  With the exception of being over 2000 lbs of steel keeping in place.  BUT, it still comes with a bolt down.  Bolt this monster down as the final layer of security.

Below are the details on this unit.  Note it has a second lock option.  All TL-30 models that we sell have an option for a second lock.  This adds accountablity for when the safe is opened.  Two people must be present or one person must know both combos.

Fireproof material is of the highest grade composite material.  This will look like cement to you and me but I assure you it is not.  I point this out because many safes use the name composite material for their fireproof material and its only sheetrock!  If you have read my other material you will hear me stress Layers of Security and this unit is biggest and bestest safe we sell on www.valuesafesinc.com

Diamond Back Gun Safe GS5930H

Model GS5930H has been recently redesigned by Diamond Back Gun Safes.   The biggest difference on this model is the hinges!   They have chosen to strengthen an area of the safe that is normally neglected and already well built.   Why would they do such a thing you ask?   I’ll tell you.

Good quality safes are made to last 20+ years.   (Don’t get good quality safes confused with Safes you can purchase in Big Box retailers with names like Sentry or worse.   Some generic name that nobody has heard of….) However, the hinges are often the first thing thing to go.   First the door bumps into the wall when trying to close the safe.   Then over the years the top hinge just starts to sag more and more…a lot like the U.S. dollar.   Which hinges  like dollars all like to be strengthend.   So Diamond Back Gun Safes added a super duty hinge to this Gun Vault.   Which moves this gun safe into the “way plus side” of 20 years and more.   So much for the idea of planned obsoletion.

Its important to go over the ingredients on how this model is made.   10 gage steel for body and door.   Place a thick metal plate inside the door, plus hardplate over the lock.   Wow, thats a lot steel!   You normally don’t find safes in this budget range with a fraction of that.   Add to it (10)  1 1/2 inch bolts on the door, hinge side of the door, top, and bottom of door.   With all this steel and bolts making this next to impossible to crow bar open.   (Which I have never heard of a Diamond Back Gun Safe having its door breached).  I should also point out that the Republic Gun Safes are built to this same thickness and are worth a very close look. Republic Gun Safes

Bolts are put on the hinge side of a door just in case someone takes a blow torch or grinder to the hinges and cuts them off.   The door still won’t open.   Granted, I ‘ve never seen this happen before but perhaps it was common before my time.

Did I mention the Group II lock?   Yes, it includes a Sargent & Greenleaf  spring loaded relocker with spyproof dial front.   As a side note, if a safe manufacturer puts on a Sargent & Greenleaf lock they want the safe to last a lifetime.   My local bank even has an old one from the 30’s still in use on their vault.   Amazing to me.   You will often see safes in antique shops with S&G locks from the 90’s…thats 1890’s!   Still in use and most likely never had anything done to them.   Did I mention these were really good locks?   Yes, you can also upgrade your lock to an electronic keypad from LaGard.   Making this a very electronic gun safe.

GS5930H is now larger in size.   But let me tell you how to look at a model number.   GS stands for GUN SAFE. 59 is 59 inches tall. 30 is 30 inches wide.   The depth is what has changed.   It is now 26 inches deep.   Be sure to note these are outside deminsions not inside.

Paint is your basic semi-gloss black with “rain drop” finish.   Not much choice there but VERY easy to repair scratches!   And if you are going to keep it for a lifetime, that’s important.   There are gun safes with high gloss shiney finishes that look great when new.   But like any piece of furniture is going to get scratched.   The high gloss shine on a Cannon Safe or American Security Gun Safe need to be taken to an auto detail or repair shop…..hmmm, sounds costly to me.

Fireproof is for 1 hour.   Which should be enough for any location unless you anticipate a fire caused by accellerants such as gas, fuel, or propane.   This safe has been factory tested in a propane oven at 1250 for 1 hour.   With the internal temp reaching a max of 350 degrees.   According to the fire dept. a normal house fire burns at 950 degrees. So this very good fire protection.

Interior material lining is bit on the sparce side.   Its a durable grade but I certainly wouldn’t call call it a plush or luxery grader liner.   Shelving comes only one way but can be adjusted or removed intirely for those that want to store something other than guns.

If you are looking for a little bit more upscale model at a  better price. I would take a look at the Republic Gun Safe series from Hollon Safe. RG-22 is basically the same size but uses a high gloss finish,  and better electronic keypad lock.  It also uses a higher grade of interior liner which is a major plus. Because you are going to have this safe for decades.  Be sure to take a look at the Republic Gun Safes.  I personally have not seen a comparable safe in quality and style unless it was double or triple the price.

I consider the Diamond Back Gun Safe model GS5930H one of the best priced gun safes on the market. The folks at Diamond Back have really done a great job with this model.   Feel free to leave your opinion if you are an owner.   Also, don’t forget to see my other postings on Diamond Back Gun Safes.

Diamond Back Gun Safe GS5924H

Diamond Back Gun Safe model GS5924H.   New and redesigned model.   This is the first in the H series with larger 1 1/2 inch bolts.   Same 10 gage steel for body but with added plating in the door makes this unit all the stronger.   The is also an upgraded lock by Sargent & Greenleaf, made in Kentucky and designed for a life time.     This is the dial lock that the others would like to be.   Hinges and door steel upgraded.   Along with an increase in depth  over  the old model.

1 hour fireproof   for those needing more protection against fire.   Perhaps you have heard me rave about the “L” series as a great quality budget priced safe.   Well, this unit is a great quality upgraded version.   Worth the extra cost.   Compare this to Cannon Safe Dangerous Game series.  There is a difference in price between Diamond Back and Cannon Safes.   First is the paint jobs.   Only Cannon can be ordered with a High Gloss Finish.   Where Diamond Back Gun Safes

Second is warrenty.   Where Diamond Back Gun Safe comes with 1 year.   Cannon Safes come with a lifetime warrenty against fire and burglary.   I said BURGLARY.     Which means…..if a burglar attempts to break into it.   Damaging the safe.   Cannon Safe will replace it…for life.   BUT pay attention to the cost.   Buying a Cannon is like purchasing a safe with an exteded warrenty.   Some other item to notice is that while Cannon Safes has been very busy the last year.   Some of its customers are having a hard time collecting on the lifetime warrenty.   Don’t if it has stayed that way.   But its something to process.   Nobody ever has a problem with Diamond Back Gun Safes.   Nice folks, and you will get a real person that answers the phone.   Prompt service if you have any problems.

Third is the interior on a Diamond Back Gun Safe cannot be accused of being “plush”.   Because its not.   It is nicely lined with a basic grey liner.   No option for upgrades.   But Diamond Back Gun Safes are available for immediate shipping.   Where a Cannon Safe will take around 6 weeks or more.   Check our prices at www.ValueSafes.com we normally have both manufacturers on sale and with free shipping.

One last insider note about gun safes.   Most won’t tell you…actually most don’t know!   Both Diamond and Cannon come from the same factory in China but in different stages of finish.   Don’t let that scare you away.   Most gun safes, even those that claim “American Made”, all are made in one of 4 factories in China.   Again in different stages of being finished.   Don’t get me wrong there are still some American brands.   But the price is through the roof on these units.   Normally they are “over built”.   I realize that sounds funny when you want a high quality Gun Safe.   But just to put bolts every 6 inches is really stupid!   Crowbars are going to have a very difficult time getting into anything that is CDOJ rated.

Be sure to read my other posts on Diamond Back Gun Safes.

TL 30 Fireproof Safe Model MV30-4120

TL 30 Safe 1 1/2 hour rated Fireproof Safes model MV30-4120 from Hayman Safes.  As I write this passage, I am reminded of just how well built a safe this unit is!  Top of the line in TL 30 rated Safes.   But before I jump in let me explain the how the model number works. “MV” stands for Magna Vault, which is Hayman’s model series name.  Such as Eldorado would belong to Cadillac.  “30” stands for TL 30 and then “41” stands for the interior height of the safe. (Pay attention to exterior…it is larger) Then the last number is “20” which is the width of the model in the interior of the safe.  Thus we get MV30-4120 kinda cool huh?  Always nice to know what you are looking at and hopefully you will find it helpfull in your search for safes.  As a side note, most manufactures do something like this with their model numbers but some stand for outside deminsions and some for inside.

Back to the safe, which is also know as a vault.  This of course is the next to the largest model of TL 30 that Hayman makes.  Though they can get much larger if you special order…its just a little more pricey.  The unit is built the same as their other TL30 Vault models with internal ball bearings between layers of hardplate as well as other unmentionalbles.  Great protection for any kind of jewelry or cash.  I think its important to point out at this time what a TL30x6 is.  That is a TL30 on all sides of the safe.  Where the door on this model is rated TL30 only.  Now, just because a TL30 is not TL30 on all sides of the safe doesn’t mean that ANYONE in the right mind can break into it.  They can’t.  Its just on x6 they make the walls ALL like 4 inches thick.  Instead of 2 inches on the walls and the door being only 6 inches thick.

Personally, I know of very few locksmiths that will even work on a TL30 (read know how to work on a TL30) Much less, I have never even heard of a thief getting into a TL30.  (This is the stuff locksmiths talk about at the annual ALOA convention…intresting for locksmiths but my wifes eyes roll back into her head as we talk shop)  So you can rest easy that you schtuff is secure in any of the Hayman Safe models rated as TL30.

Its important to point out that this TL30 has a weight of almost 1400 lbs.  You are getting to the top of the weight limit (which 1500 lbs) for most liftgates on trucks and readily avialable moving equipment.  After this size, you better want to recieve the safe and never have it moved again.  Because it will become costly to do so.  Riggers must be called in as well as a team of Brutus like men to move it.  If you are in a high rise and need to take it up an elevator. Check the weight limit on the elevator. I have actually had safes returned because they were too heavy to go up the elevator! Ouch, that was an expensive mistake!

Don’t forget to bolt this unit down.  Even if it weighs over 1000 lbs.  Remeber, bolt down is the last layer of protection.  In your layers of security.  Oh, wait. Many people will also add a door alarm contact to the safe door and include it as a constant “alarmed” zone on thier system.  So they must deactivate the zone everytime they want inside.  Which is an other “layer of security”.

This unit is top of the line in quality.  For more information on Hayman safes please read our other blogs on this subject.

Diamond Back Gun Safe GS5928L

Diamond Back Fireproof  Gun Safe model GS5928L is a half an hour fireproof safe.  Very good value in size.  Comes with two bolt holes.  Extra secure for bolting to the ground.  When this model was first sold it had a tendecy to tip forward when the door was open.  This was due to the weight of the safe and narrowness of the body.  But not anymore!  They fixed that several years ago.  Without compromising the thickness of the door.  I would still bolt it to the ground for security reasons.

I have had a lot of coments on the pallet that this one has built into it.  The pallet is two metal rail type pieces that come bolted to the bottom.  It doesn’t come shipped on a wooden pallet.  It came be a little cumberson to unbolt.  Unlike on a wooden pallet.  That you would just cut the strap on the Fireproof Gun Safe and wiggle to the floor to be handcarted around.  No, this one must be leaned forward and held while someone unbolts the gun safe from the rail.  Its not as hard as it sounds and can be done by one person.

10 Gage steel is rare to find in a gun safe.  Especially in the under $3000. range.   But this one has it!  Its normal retail is around $950 in gun shops and local locksmiths.  Valuesafes always has it on sale and with free shipping to your home.  I would like to point out something.  If inflation stays on it current path world wide.  I will not be surprised to see the price of this model jump considerably.  Or be redesigned with a 12 or even 14 gage steel.  (I will anounce it on our website to inform anyone of changes in the quality of this safe) BUT for today, I think if you are looking for a fireproof gun safe.  With a 30 min fire protection. Top quality but on a budget.  This is one to consider.  I would put this one in first place position when considering also.

Be sure to check out more writtings in this section on Diamond Back Gun Safes.  I try not to bore people with repeat information.  You may also wish to check out more reviews at www.safesblog.com I am not sure if they have commented on this unit yet.  But leave a little feedback if you own one.

TL 30 Hayman Fireproof Safe model MV30-3020

MV30-3020 TL 30 Safe is number 3 in the line up of TL 30 safes. 1 1/2 hour fireproof UL listed and tested Safe.  Size is the only variable between this model and the others.  It is important to note that you should read my other postings on the safes in this line up.  I will try not to repeat my self much in this blog. (My wife wishes that was the same around the shop and at home! I do love her!) At this size, this big thing is getting heavy!  You will need a moving crew or VERY heavy duty handtruck to move it.  I suggest ramps and elevators.  Forget the stairs unless you are using a crew. BUT, and this is a big but.  Check out the quality of the steps.   Remember the steps will need to support the weight of the safe, which is just over 1000lbs, plus the weight of movers.  Normally 3-4 guys. Which will be around 1600lbs – 1800lbs on your stair case.  If the stairs are in a new home and made of wood.  I would get an expert opion before I toted this thing up them.  The last thing you want is the TL-30 Safe to damage or break the stairs.  Concrete steps are ok.  Steel steps…hmmm…get another opinion.  Most of the time a good moving crew can be a good judge.  But be carefull.

Valuesafes normally has these on sale with free shipping included. But I know they will not take it inside at the prices quoted on their website.  Just down to the ground and either back or front door.  My suggestion is get them to send it to a local moving company. Then have the moving company bring it to the house and place it inside. If you don’t want to man handle this beast yourself.  Oh, some locksmiths in many cities specialize in safe moving and installing.  They even have equipement that would climb stairs with a safe like this.  Really, its called a “stair climber” and its a motorized handtruck.  Works great but not every locksmith has made the investment to purchase one of these.

I was speaking with Gary Hayman of Hayman Safes the other day and he was laminting the price of steel.  It keeps going up.  Especially with the devaluation of the American Dollar.  So if you are thinking about purchasing a safe. TL 30 or any other model. Do it soon. Inflation, fuel for shipping, as well as other factors are only going to increase the price of safes over the long run. Speaking of over the long run.  A TL30 is normally kept for a lifetime.  Passed on to future generations.  You will not find any used TL30 Safes on the market. Or at least I never have.  Another factor in this is your chain Jewelry stores when they need a Jewelry Safe just purchase a TL15 safe.  So once in a blue moon you can find one of those used.  But not very often or in very good condition.  Rarely fireproof as they just guard jewelry and no paperwork.  Always replace the lock with a brand new unit when you get a used TL rated safe.  Because you don’t know if it was having problems before.  Even intermitantly.  The last thing you want to do is have a locked up TL 30 on your hands.  Other than that.  Stay with an American based manufacturer of TL rated safes when it comes to service work, you will be very glad you did.

Below are some of the great features of this TL 30 Fireproof Safe:

  • Composite Construction – 6″ Thick Door – 2″ Thick Body
  • 1 1/2 Hour Manufacturer Fire Label
  • 2″ Bolts
  • Solid, continuous dead bolt bar for complete locking of the hinge side
  • Large heavy duty hinges with bearing plate for smooth operation
  • 1/2″ thick hardplate impregnated with ball bearings
  • 2 relocking devices for protection during drill & punch attacks
  • Adjustable shelves (yes, you can get extra shelves)
  • Mounting holes provided
  • 2nd lock option
  • Intumescent door seal (the seal swells up to 8 times its normal thickness at high temperatures).

Diamond Back Gun Safes GS5922L

Diamond Back Gun Safes have a model GS5922L that I think is one of the best buys in small gun safes.  For those of you that have never heard of Diamond Back Gun Safes this will be good information for you.  Diamond Back Gun Safe is a division of Cobalt Safes.  Which is a major importer of safes.  Very few safes are actually made in the States anymore.(I know, it makes me sad too)  Until you get to units costing thousands of dollars.  Which this one is considered an excellant medium grade gun safe.  Equiped with drill resistant hard plate, relocker, 30 min fireproof fire rating, (9) 1 inch bolts incased in a 10 gage steel body.  Saaaweeet!  Also meets and far exceeds CDOJ (California Dept of Justice)

Compared to Sentry gun safe or a Honeywell gun safe.  These are truelly a huge cut above and the next step up in quality.   The negative on them is they only come in semi-gloss black.  OR semi-gloss black.  So much for choice.  But the color is very is to repair scratches or blemishes.  Diamond Back Gun Safe can supply a bit of black paint.  But any semi-gloss black paint will do.  Just run by you local automotive parts store and you should find some or even a your local hardware store.  Easy to repair.  Which is important.  We all move at one time or another.  With the average person moving every 7 years. (I  heard that somewhere…)  You are bound to scratch it in your move.  Note: The high gloss finish of a Cannon or American Security do scratch easy and have to be repaired by an automotive repair shop.  That high gloss sure looks good though.

My estimate on this safe, when its bolted down, is very good against a prybar attack.  10 gage steel just doesn’t bend much and the door thickness will keep a prybar from getting a good grip on it.  So this one is a favorite for the budget minded gun safe person.

The Diamond Back gun safe model GS5922L does have a slight downside.  That is I wish it came with a Sargent & Greenleaf dial lock.  But instead it only comes with an import lock.  Its not a bad lock, I just really like the S&G locks made in Kentucky.  Now then the H series do have a S&G dial lock on them.  But other than that we got many positive comments on this safe from customers.
